ZRCP leads a validation workshop for “Zanzibar Startup Ecosystem Scoping Study,” co-funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tanzania and Funguo Tanzania

The Zanzibar Research Centre for Socio-Economic and Policy Analysis (ZRCP) recently held a significant meeting with key government institutions at the Bank of Tanzania conference room. The gathering focused on critical discussions surrounding Zanzibar’s digital future, with a particular emphasis on the Inclusive Digital Economy Scorecard (IDES) and the first draft of the Zanzibar Digital Transformation Policy 2024.

This gathering focused on two critical agendas:

  1. Inclusive Digital Economy Scorecard (IDES) Update: Kendall from the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) presented an update on the progress of the Inclusive Digital Economy Scorecard (IDES). This tool is essential in tracking Zanzibar's strides toward creating an inclusive digital economy, highlighting the successes and areas needing improvement.

  2. Zanzibar Digital Transformation Policy 2024: The first draft of the Zanzibar Digital Transformation Policy 2024 was discussed in depth. Moderated by Dr. Twahir, Director of Research and Policy Engagement at ZRCP, the session saw active participation from the attendees, who provided valuable feedback. The discussion focused on aligning the policy with Zanzibar's unique needs, addressing gaps, and ensuring that the policy is robust and comprehensive. The inputs from this discussion will be incorporated into the draft, enhancing its quality and effectiveness.

The meeting underscored ZRCP's commitment to fostering a collaborative environment where stakeholders can contribute to shaping Zanzibar's digital future. The outcomes of this session are expected to significantly influence the finalization of the Digital Transformation Policy, positioning Zanzibar as a leader in digital innovation and inclusive economic growth.
